About Me

I’m Jiawei Chen Maggie, a Hong Kong-based researcher interested in film, literature, and digital visual culture. I completed an MA in Literary and Cultural Studies at the University of Hong Kong with Distinction.

My research explores how images and stories shape our experiences of cities, identity, and belonging. My MA dissertation examines Huang Heshan’s Too Rich City, developing a “Flâneur Network” framework to understand how viewers interpret and imaginatively inhabit a virtual city through Bilibili’s on-screen comments, or danmu.

My wider interests include film noir, Hong Kong cinema, and Xi Xi’s writing. Across these areas, I am drawn to questions of urban space, gender, memory, and spectatorship: how we look, how we participate, and how media connect individual experiences with collective life.

Alongside my academic work, I have gained archival and curatorial experience at CHAT and 1a space in Hong Kong. These experiences have encouraged me to think about how research takes shape through exhibitions, collections, and public engagement.

This website brings together selected essays, research projects, and reflections from my work in film, literature, and the arts.
